The Localiza rent a car FAQs section is an useful source for you to find out answers for questions about our service.
Payment
- Rentals up to 28 days for Individuals: You can pay with cash or debit/credit cards (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club International, and Elo). Corporate/Business cards and prepaid cards are not accepted.
- Rentals over 29 days for Individuals: For monthly rentals, please check the conditions at the following link: Localiza Monthly Flex Rental.
- Rentals for Businesses: Payments can be made upfront, in installments on a credit card, or invoiced according to contractual terms.
Important info:
- The Pre-Authorization hold and rental payment are only processed when you pick up the car. You cannot pay in advance.
- Some credit cards may not be registered on our agency’s machines. Therefore, we recommend bringing more than one card option at the time of pickup.
It’s a hold on your credit card. This serves as an estimate for potential expenses in case of any unforeseen issues during the rental. The amount varies depending on the chosen group and category. At the end of the contract, if there are no outstanding charges, we request your bank to release the amount held, and your credit limit is restored (according to your credit card provider’s and/or issuing bank’s timeline).
It is processed on the day of pickup, using a credit card in the name of the reservation holder or the Financially Responsible Person.
Brazilian customers:
Currently, a credit card is required for the Pre-Authorization amount. If you don’t have a credit card or a Financially Responsible Person, you can undergo a registration review at our agency during pickup. This review, which costs R$39.90 and is only charged upon approval, is available for rentals up to 28 days under an individual’s name.
Foreign customers:
Currently, a credit card is required for the Pre-Authorization amount. Without a credit card, either yours or a Financially Responsible Person’s, you cannot rent with Localiza.
Pre-Authorization amounts vary based on the car group rented and the number of rentals in the past 14 months. To check the Pre-Authorization amounts, please visit the following link: Pre-Authorization Amounts Table
We request the release of the Pre-Authorization hold when the contract is closed. If you haven’t received the refund yet, we recommend contacting your card’s issuing bank. To help the bank locate the amount, provide the Pre-Authorization code, which you can find in our Customer Portal.
A Financially Responsible Person is someone you designate to handle the Pre-Authorization and rental payment. You can choose this option if you don’t have a credit card in your name with available credit.
This benefit is available for individual contracts made directly with Localiza. The prerequisites are:
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Have a valid photo ID;
- Be a Brazilian citizen;
- Present a physical or contactless credit card.
Additionally, when chosen, the Financially Responsible Person must be present at the agency during the car pickup, along with the customer.
No. They are responsible for the Pre-Authorization and rental payment. If you want them to drive the vehicle as well, simply add them as an Additional Driver when opening the contract.
No. If you have designated a Financially Responsible Person, they will be responsible for the total reservation amount and the Pre-Authorization, making it impossible to split the expenses.
Localiza&Co is exempt from issuing an invoice, but you can use the Car Rental Agreement as legal proof of rental.
