Frequently Asked Questions

How can we help you?

The Localiza rent a car FAQs section is an useful source for you to find out answers for questions about our service.

Traffic Violations

Not always. Some Notifications are published in the official gazette, while others may be lost by the traffic authorities. However, all received data is digitized and sent to you by email.

Moreover, it’s important to know that, in Brazil, a Traffic Violation Notification is not officially a fine yet. A TVN can still be appealed to, meanwhile a fine cannot.

If you get fined, we’ll send you the official Traffic Violation Notification via email with all the relevant info: car model/license plate, date and time of the violation, type of violation, points, and a document to identify the actual offender.

Additionally, you can access all the information on it through the Customer Portal.

In this case, the person responsible for the contract must first pay the fine to Localiza. Then, we need you to send the completed and signed Driver Report to the email multa@localiza.com, along with a copy of the driver’s license.

Reminder: the submission must be made within the original deadline provided in the email sent at the time of rental. After this period, Localiza will appoint the contract holder as the party responsible.

For daily rental reservations without an Additional Driver, the contract holder is automatically appointed to the traffic authority (as stated in the contract).

However, if your contract is for a daily rental with an Additional Driver or a monthly rental, we need you to send the completed and signed Driver Report to the email multa@localiza.com, along with a copy of the driver’s license.

Reminder: the submission must be made within the original deadline provided in the email sent at the time of rental. After this period, Localiza will appoint the contract holder as the party responsible.

You will receive a charge for the fine amount already discounted for early payment, as granted by the traffic authorities. Then, we add the remaining amount to the contractual administrative fee of 25%, which is calculated on the full amount of the fine.

In general, the fine is charged:

  • To the same credit card used for the rental;
  • To other cards registered for the contract in question (including third-party cards);
  • To the user’s registered card.

If none of these options are possible, we will issue a boleto (payment slip) with a 10-day deadline for payment.

However, for contracts opened in the name of a legal entity, the fine is charged according to the contractual specifics. In these cases, we will send an email about the availability of the boleto in the Electronic Billing Portal to the responsible parties registered in the system.

If you disagree with a TVN, you need to present a defense or appeal directly to the issuing authority. For this, you will need:

  • Vehicle Registration (CRLV);
  • Traffic Violation Notification or fine;
  • Your arguments;
  • Driver’s License (CNH) of the person handling the process.

Reminder: regardless of the appeal status, you need to pay the fine to Localiza within the deadline, as per the General Conditions of the Car Rental and Insurance Contract. But don’t worry! If your appeal is accepted, we will reimburse the amount paid.

No. If you pay after the due date, proportional interest will be charged.

We suggest generating a new barcode or downloading the boleto from the Customer Portal. Then, calculate the interest on the overdue boleto via Internet Banking or at bank branches and make the payment.

Reminder: it may take up to 2 business days for the bank to recognize the payment and for it to be processed by Localiza.
