The Localiza rent a car FAQs section is an useful source for you to find out answers for questions about our service.
Payment Tag
The Payment Tag, which is already equipped in all our cars, is an automatic toll and parking payment service. With it, you avoid lines and don’t have to worry about payments, as everything is organized in your contract with Localiza.
However, if you are a business customer, the activation of the Payment Tag is done according to your company’s contract with Localiza. In these cases, please speak with your Sales Manager.
If you are an individual, the Payment Tag is already enabled for the entire fleet available for Fast Digital Pickup. In these cases, you just need to request the Tag through the Localiza app at the time of booking. Cool, right?
However, if you are a business customer, the activation of the Payment Tag is done according to your company’s contract with Localiza. In these cases, please speak with your Sales Manager.
If you are an individual, you can access the Customer Portal and go to the “Contracts” menu. From there, simply enter the “Tag Management” tab, and you’re all set!

If you don’t want to use the Tag, simply use the manual toll gates (or get a ticket when at shopping centers).
In this case, you can:
- At the service counter, request the deactivation of the Tag provided by Localiza, or
- In our Customer Portal, unlink the Tag from the vehicle by accessing the “Tag Management” menu.
Reminder: Please be aware that the status change can take up to 6 hours to be confirmed by toll operators after the first use. There is no cost to use your own Tag, but the Localiza Tag must remain attached to the windshield. Before returning the car, your own Tag must be removed from the windshield and unlinked in the provider’s app. Simply removing the sticker does not guarantee the service is deactivated, as the reading can also occur via the car’s license plate.
Brazilian customers with a CNH:
The minimum rental requirements are:
- Be at least 18 years old. Additionally, drivers under 21 must include the Young Driver add-on at the time of booking;
- Have a valid driver’s license;
- Pass a credit approval evaluation;
- Have a credit card (physical or contactless) in the name of the reservation holder or the Financially Responsible Person to pay the Pre-Authorization
Foreign customers or Brazilian customers with a foreign driver’s license:
The minimum rental requirements are:
- Be at least 18 years old. Additionally, drivers under 21 must include the “Young Driver” add-on at the time of booking;
- Have a valid driver’s license;
- Pass a credit approval evaluation;
- Have a credit card (physical or contactless) in the name of the reservation holder.
- Additionally, you need a document proving your entry date into the country, such as:
- Passport with a physical stamp from the Federal Police showing entry into Brazil, or
- Air, sea, or bus ticket showing the country of origin and entry date into Brazil, or
- Federal Police permit.
Lastly, according to Brazilian Traffic Legislation, customers with a foreign driver’s license can only drive in Brazil for up to 180 days, respecting the validity of the original license. Ensure the presented proof complies with this period.
Reminder: For Mercosur countries, a passport is not necessary. An ID is sufficient.
