Cartagena

- Localiza

Cartagena de Indias, or simply Cartagena, is a place you won't want to miss if you visit Colombia. Bathed by the Caribbean Sea, the city was an important port in colonial times and was the target of pirate attacks. Today it retains the charm of centuries past and still has its beautiful beaches.

What's there to do in Cartagena de Indias?

A visit to the Walled City is a must. The old part of the city is located here, as are many of the main tourist attractions. It's really best if you find your lodgings here. Even though it's farther from the beaches, you'll be surrounded by charming streets, churches and restaurants.

Be sure not to miss the Cathedral, the Palace of the Inquisition, the Church of San Pedro Claver, Bolívar Park and the Clock Tower – built as the main entrance through the wall and, to top it off, close to Portal de los Dulces (Candy Gate), with an incredible variety of traditional Colombian sweets.

The city's beaches have clear water and very dark sand. If you're looking for a Caribbean paradise, it's better to get out of the city – by car or boat. To enjoy your trip with greater comfort and safety, when you arrive at the Cartagena airport, rent a car from Localiza.
